Canary Islands
The view from space. Note the sand blowing off the Sahara. The
tradewinds, at the right times during the year, carry it all the
way to the Canaries. That wind-blown sand, not rain, accounts for
almost all of the erosion on Lanzarote and Fuertoventura. If you
visit either island during the summer months, prepare to get blown
around. The tradewinds were great for mariners of yore, but are
not so great for tourists of yea.
"Blimey, me littl' drink umbrella's just 'eaded off to discover
the New World, and there's whitecaps in me pink layday!"
Overheard in Playa Blanca on Lanzarote in 2004...;)
