The Anaga range on Tenerife is a series of high, steeply-
sided mountains on the northeastern end of the island. Driving
through them, one experiences a combination of fright and beauty.
Fright because the road, while well made, is so close to the edge
of nothingness, and beauty because the views are breathtaking.
The first few photos are from the first time we tried this road,
from the west side in the Mercedes Mountains. The rest are from
the second drive, through and over the Anagas, driving north, then
west, from near San Andreas.
You can see this range from an aerial view, shot from the plane
as we arrived, here.
These photos are presented in the order in which they were taken.
The second and third pages contain shots taken from about 3000 feet above
sea level, close to the edge, and in the clouds.
The last shot on the third page will give you an idea of what we were
feeling on top of those mountains. There is nothing on either side of that
path. Just a drop straight down of more feet than I care to think about.
On that day, the observation platform was shrouded in clouds. You couldn't
see a thing. But, we didn't need to.
