La Geria

La Geria is the wine growing region of Lanzarote. In the 18th century, the
malvasia grape was introduced to Lanzarote from Crete. But the wine grown here tastes very
different from anything grown in Greece due to the unique volcanic environment in which it
is grown.

La Geria stretches right through the entire middle of the island, from Uga in the south
to San Bartolomé in the north. Not only is the wine excellent, but the area itself
is a breathtaking sight - especially when you realize what a human effort went, and still
goes, into it. One little road runs through it, and we took it...
