On January 2, 2001, Ulla and I traveled to the island of Lanzarote.
Lanzarote is one of seven ancient volcanic islands that make up the
archipelago that is today called the Canary Islands. Lanzarote was the
first of these islands to roar from the floor of the Atlantic Ocean, some
sixty miles west of the coast of Africa, just north of the Tropic of Cancer.

On these pages you will find some of what we saw and learned about this
incredible island.

Update: We will be returning to Playa Blanca for the first two weeks
of July, 2004, 3 1/2 years after our first visit. Expect to see updates
to these pages upon our return. And perhaps we'll see you there...
